Hillcrest Church and Falls Community Church have joined together to bring the Gospel as well as humanitarian aid to a remote village in Southern Sudan. The people of Southern Sudan have been devastated by the long civil war and genocide over religious freedom. Food security is the most important need in the area we are traveling to. We are going to help the village of Kalalayi build a farm that can sustain the village and produce enough extra as to sell in the local markets.

I have come to help
This morning I was reading from the devotional "Made to Matter" by Randy Kilgore. We are reading it in our small group. The story was about a New York City reporter named Jacob Riis who wrote and photographed about the plight of the poor in New York in the nineteenth-century. His book, "How the Other Half Lives" found it's way into the eyes of a young man just starting his political career. He sent a note to Riis that read " I have read your book, and I have come to help. Theodore Roosevelt." Today we leave to help. The book we read was the Bible. The words we see move us to action. " But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves." James 1:22. The other book was read by Pastor Doug and that was the book of Pastor Julius. He read about his plight and the plight of his people by listening and he responded" I have come to help" by pulling together a team willing to go to Africa where we all can say, " I have read your book, and I have come to help". The book is not in the form of words on a page but in the lives and faces of the people we have already grown to love without even meeting them. What is God calling you to do right where you are today? What book are you reading? Whose life has God brought into yours where you have the opportunity to respond, " I have read your book, and I have come to help"? We are on our way to Africa but Sioux Falls has a lot of books to be read. Turn the page and find your adventure. Love you all, Deena
